Chinese President Xi Jinping, during his phone calls with foreign leaders on Tuesday, April 14, said that China will continue to support Serbia, Kyrgyzstan and Finland in the fight against COVID-19.
Xi Jinping informed his Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vuci that China has provided Serbia with urgently needed medical supplies, sent medical experts there, and will continue to provide assistance and support to Serbia in its fight against COVID-19.
The two sides have once again demonstrated their deep friendship with concrete actions to combat the pandemic, Xi said.
Xi noted that China is ready to join forces with Serbia to promote global cooperation in the face of the pandemic.
For his part, Vucic reiterated that his country will remember what China has done and how it has given the Serbian people hope for victory, adding that the Serbian people will always be a sincere and reliable friend of the Chinese people, and Serbia will do everything possible to protect the Chinese in Serbia.
More than 3,000 people have contracted COVID-19 in Serbia, with 71 deaths, local authorities said at a daily press conference on April 10.
Serbia has been in a state of emergency since March 16. Borders and schools are closed, and people's movement is restricted by curfews.
During his telephone conversation with Kyrgyz President Sooronbai Jeenbekov, Xi said that China is ready to share information and experience with the Kyrgyz people and send medical experts there as soon as possible, adding that both sides should strengthen cooperation both at the bilateral level and in multilateral frameworks such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).
The two sides should also take the comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level and promote the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, Xi said.
The Kyrgyz president hailed China's efforts and achievements in fighting the virus, saying the pandemic demonstrates the urgency and feasibility of Xi's vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.
On the same day, Xi also spoke with his Finnish counterpart Sauli Niinisto, saying that China will continue to share its experience in dealing with the virus with Finland and help the country with its shortage of basic necessities.
Xi said he believes Finland will overcome the difficulties under Niinisto's leadership, and hopes Finland can ensure the safety of Chinese people, especially students in Finland.
Xi also promised to deepen cooperation with Finland in areas such as technological innovation, telecommunications and science.
Niinisto said that China's experience is very useful for his country, and praised China's cooperation with the World Health Organization and other European countries.
The President noted that the early recovery of China's economy is crucial for the whole world.
